Leadership

One step at a time...

If you can’t fly, then run, if you can’t run, then walk, if you can’t walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.
— Martin Luther King, Jr.

I’m an avid reader and have been for as long as I can remember. It’s good to have my mom around to keep my memory honest. Sometime before starting kindergarten, I learned how to read. Apparently it wasn’t easy. I put up a fight, wanting to quit before I began. I’m fortunate that my parents didn’t give up on me that summer or any of the times in the future when I needed their encouragement to keep moving. My mom has always had a methodical way of solving problems and removing obstacles. She made it look easy, even when it wasn’t. Growing up, I didn’t always appreciate her bias for sticking with something and seeing it through no matter how hard it was or how long it took. I didn’t always have an appreciation for how incremental steps could lead to exponential opportunity. I’m finally starting to get it and it’s helped me in my career and on the hiking trail. Thanks, Mom, Dr. King and all the others who have encouraged me along the way. Back to it!
